Sugar Shane Mosley (46-7-1 39 ko’s) will one day be entered into Boxing’s Hall of Fame, and rightfully so. At the turn of the century he was considered the best boxing had to offer, the pound for pound king and consequently became a three weight world champion. Saul Alvarez (39-0-1 29 ko’s), is to steal a phrase once used to describe James Kirkland, Golden Boy’s ‘golden child.’ He is the current 154 pound World Boxing Council (WBC) Champion but as of yet has not been what I would call tested. Proud but limited fighters have been put in front of him and with his far superior skills he has prevailed. A good match up then? The layman would think so. ‘Shane Mosley?! He fought Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao so he would test this young kid wouldn’t he?’ That is the line that will be used to build up this fight and it is quite frankly embarrassing. The truth is Shane Mosley has not won a contest in three years and the difference between a prime Mosley and the fighter that asked his trainer to stop his last fight is chalk and cheese.
